Looking for some kind of indoor or outdoor event for my husband, who has Alzheimers , and myself to keep him engaged. Really open to ideas that could be provided, and do not mind helping in any way.

I hear ya. My 70 year old mother has dementia and need to find something for her too.

      Hi Linda and Jimbob,

Thanks for the inquiry. I’m hoping others will chime in as well with suggestions. I have a couple which you may or may not already know about:

      – There is a senior luncheon every Tuesday at noon at the Tully United Community Church on Meetinghouse Rd. in Tully. There may be activities that follow the luncheon that might be of interest. Also check out the other activities and events listed on the TullyRec.org site like the Indoor Walking, The Christmas Carol production and the Winter Solstice concert.

      – Rock Steady Boxing is a program originally designed to help people with Parkinson’s but has participants with dementia as well. The closest program is called RSB Syracuse. There are at least a couple people in the Tully area who are involved in the program. Call (315) 729-7178 for more information. General information about it can be found at rocksteadyboxing.org.

      – The Syracuse Memory Cafe meets from 10:30 – noon on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church at 5299 Jamesville Rd in Dewitt. Contact 315-446-0960 or email [email protected] for more specific information. Or visit their website at syracusememorycafe.com.

      – Finally, it might be useful to contact the Office for the Aging to see if they can link you up with other programs. 315-435-2362.
